Anchorage Transit Works:
For residents - getting them to and from work, school, appointments, or for fun.
For business - by meeting the transportation needs of those who do not own or use a vehicle, by choice, or by necessity.
For non-transit users - by reducing traffic congestion, reducing wear on city roads, and affecting an overall lower level of repair and maintenance
For the future transportation plans of the city - by serving as an INTEGRAL component of the Highway 2 Highway project AND the Anchorage 2020 plan
For the environment and our health - by reducing emissions from automobiles and improving our air quality
Anchorage transit does work - let's keep it working now, and into the future.

Say NO to fare increases and service cuts!
Service Cuts/Fare Hikes for People Mover?
The Department of Public Transportation has submitted a 2010 Operating Budget that includes the following:
1) FARE INCREASE:
An (as yet) unspecified increase in fares (second fare increase in five years!)
Coupled with
2) EAGLE RIVER/CHUGIAK SERVICE ELIMINATED:
The ELIMINATION of ALL local service in Eagle River/Chugiak by March 2010 (following an already drastic reduction of service as of this new service year - July 2009)
and, perhaps most troubling
3) CORE SERVICES IN THE ANCHORAGE BOWL CUT:
The ELIMINATION of ALL "early morning/late evening" trips system-wide across the Anchorage Bowl (times unspecified as of yet)
Bus service in the bowl is already limited, and further cuts (with an accompanying fare increase) are unacceptable.
If you are concerned about these changes, please do one or more of the following:
1) Attend the next (and final) public hearing on the budget - scheduled for next Tuesday, November 3rd, 6:00 p.m., Assembly Chambers (take routes 2, 36, or 60 if riding the bus!) and sign up to testify!
2) Call or write your assembly member and urge them to protect services and constrain costs
Don't know who your assembly member is? Find out Go here
3) Write a letter to the editor expressing your view that transit users shouldn't pay more for less service! ( http://www.adn.com/help/letters/ )
4) Tell your friends, neighbors, and others whom you know are supportive of transit, and urge them to repeat steps 1 through 3!
